Hello there, wonderful readers! Today, we're diving into a topic that might just save your digital sanity: setting up your very own password fortress! πŸ›‘️ Ever wondered, 'Why on Earth would I need a password manager?' Buckle up, because we're about to embark on a journey that unveils the secret superhero powers of these password protectors! πŸ’ͺ

Picture this: a secret vault just for your passwords, guarded by digital dragons and protected by virtual moats. πŸ‰ It's like having a personal bodyguard for your digital life! A password manager isn't just a storage solution; it's a secure sanctuary where your passwords can kick back, relax, and party with peace of mind!

So here are some bullet points on why you need a password manager.

          Well, for starters :

  • It can store all your passwords securely. Keyword being "securely".
  • Furthermore, there's no need for us to commit our passwords to memory.
  • Aids in establishing strong passwords. I managed to access my friends system since his password was "Maggi". Avoid this, I implore you.
  • You can also import your password from chrome or any-other browser you're using. This way all passwords can be stored in one single space and are easily accessible.
  • You can set really strong passwords. (He can't beat Goku though. My anime fans will get this joke)
  • Setting up password saving for family members as well as guest.

Here's a example of how the password manager interface appears like on my computer.

In this blog we will be looking at how we can install a password manager from 1Password. We will be looking at how we can :
  • Download 1Password.
  • Set it up.
  • Import passwords from web browser.

I will be utilizing Chrome and if you're using a different browser and find yourself puzzled a speedy search on Google can provide assistance. (Or you can send me a mail). Also, the above software in paid but you can use a 14 day trial without putting in your precious Credit card details. Though, I highly recommend you do get the paid one. I imagine its 35 USD for a whole year.

  1. Copy and paste this link in your browser "https://1password.com/".
  2. On the right top bottom click on "Try 1Password for free" and on the next page click try for 14 days free. If it asks for your card details just scroll down and you can click on "Skip".
  3. Now you enter your id along with your strong and safeguarded password. After this you have to put in your "Master Password". (This is crucial and don't forget it".)
  4. Download the required version of your. Mine was windows. A desktop application would be great but you can also do everything on the browser itself.

Importing your password file from web browser to PC

  3. Click on the three dots icon on the right side above the Saved Passwords list.
  4. Select Export passwords.
  5. Enter your device's password to export the passwords.
  6. Save the csv file.

Importing the password csv file from PC to 1Password.

  1. Click on the 3 dots on the left corner of your 1Password app and click on import. See the below screenshot for reference.

  2. Add your Csv file and then it shows you can add labels for each column. I recommend inserting the names accordingly since it will be better for readability.

Changing Passwords using 1Password: Ok, remember those weak passwords we had earlier? This app can help us change them and set much stronger passwords. Your password manager is a perfect tool to help you do it. Unfortunately, it wont do it for you rather you will have to manually do it yourself by logging into each account and changing the passwords. I will demonstrate it for you quickly.

  1. Click on any of the division whose password you want to change. For the sake of illustrating, I have opted for an example with the username "name", and as you might have guessed the password is  "password".

  2. Click on edit on the top right and click on password. A prompt to change password will come.

  3. Use the slider to choose what suits your taste. You can also use symbols which will make it harder to crack even more.

There's also an important feature which I find quite useful is the option for guest password. Let's pretend for a moment you have a baby sitter coming home and you need to give her access to the WIFI, phone numbers or some other emergency details. What you can do is make a vault on your 1Password and invite her and woosh she can access whatever you have filled in the vault with.

Now the downside to this is the guest will have to download and make a 1Password account.        There's no way around this. (It's free for them). The plus side is you have a lot of control on what  you are sharing.

So, thats all for this blog post and I will be coming up with new posts to educate the beginners like myself.
And for the conclusion, and there you have it my fellow digital explorers! We've journeyed through the digital realms, battling forgotten passwords, learning how we can manage and access them, how our family members and guests can access them, and most important of all "safeguarding" our password.
Stay safe and stay smiling because in this digital age a grin is the safest firewall you can have. πŸš€πŸ”πŸ˜„
